1. How does Buy It Together work?

Buy It Together, or B.i.T, works by automating a time-tested method of saving, sharing, and spending money. Essentially, a group of like-minded individuals, be they family, friends, or peers, join together to save money collectively. Each member of the group gets his/her turn to collect. For example, let's take a look at the phases and steps involved in a sample B.i.T Plan:

1. George wants a new MacBook for college. His friends Michelle, Tyler, and Chris all need MacBooks too. So, George opens a B.i.T plan including him and his three friends.

2. Each month (or any other interval of time), George, Michelle, Tyler, and Chris all pay a portion of money into their B.i.T plan's pool. Their portions must all add up to the cost of one MacBook--$1000. So, each month they each need to commit $250, and each month, one of them gets to take all the money in the pool and use it to buy their MacBook.

3. This process repeats until everyone has their MacBook, avoiding all sorts of messy debt and interest fees, as well as granting the added effect of forming even deeper bonds of trust and understanding with the peers within the group. With B.I.T, no extra money of any sort needs to be spent in order to purchase expensive items that the buyer cannot normally afford. It essentially splits theses purchases into payments that can be easily afforded.

2. How do I start a B.I.T plan?

B.I.T plans start as Goals. To form a new goal, choose the 'Goals Setup' option in the Options panel, select 'Add New Goal' at the top, and follow the on-screen instructions, filling in the necessary information (such as the name of the goal and the item being purchased). Start inviting your friends, and once everything is ready, turn it into a plan and get the ball rolling!

3. How long will my B.I.T plan last?

You can control how long your plan will take to complete when you are setting up your Goal. It's totally up to you (and the other members in your plan, of course!).

4. Are there any fees associated with using the B.I.T service?

Nope! B.I.T is totally free.

5. Can I back out of a B.I.T plan once it is started?

No. A B.I.T plan is a commitment and must be carried out until it is fully completed. However your peers and plan coordinator can utilize the system features to address your needs

6. Is there any way to change a B.I.T plan once it's started?

Parameters for your BiT plan related to turns and their intervals can be modified by your plan's coordinator.

7. How do I add friends?

Search for friends by going to the friends page and looking up their name. Choose 'Add friend' to send them a request for you to add them as a friend.

8. How do I invite friends to one of my plans?

You can invite as many fiends as you want once you have published the plan. Each plan will have limited number of slots that can be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Members who missed the join a particular plan can always start a new plan if all the slots are filled.
